River

Surfing

Explore the excitement of surfing the river waves at WOKA. River surfing utilizes both inflatable boards as well as short solid boards made of foam or fiberglass similar to ocean surfing.

You are welcome to bring your own board, or rent one of our inflatable and performance surfboard rentals. There are 4 features in the park that are optimized for surfing, each feature is level and flow dependant. (Check the wave cams for current conditions) if you have questions about surfing talk to one of the staff, and they will be able to get you set up.

River-surfing is an emerging activity across the country, and local retailers haven’t quite caught up with demand so finding river-specific surfboard can sometimes be tricky.

Unfortunately, there are not currently any retailers in the area that sell surfboards. We source our rental boards form Badfishsup.com, another online retailer are Catchsurf.com. If you are looking for a higher end board check out Corridor Surf at surfboise.com, they are a river-specific surf shop.

What Surfboard do I Need?

Surfboard selection is primarily based on two things: weight and wave. Below are the different types of boards we rent at WOKA.

Surfing CFS Guide

Below are general guidelines for how it will be to surf at various levels, and what type of surfboard might be good. Given the nature of river surfing and the adjustability of the entrance gates, and drop 3, these are subject to change. You can always check the condition of the waves on the camera livestream at visitwoka.com/wave-cams.

  • Drop 1 Entrance gates tunable to form a surf wave with a shorter board (inflatable/foam and glass)
  • Drop 3 – 24′ green wave, Surfable with all boards
  • Drop 4 very foamy, requires larger volume foamy, or inflatable board
  • Drop 5 surfable with bodyboard only
  • Drops 6-8: Irregular waves may be surfable depending on surfer/board, check cameras.
